THE growth of a district arts group continues, with a recent donation from Gannawarra Shire Council helping to promote the renamed organisation.

Golden Rivers Artists' membership has increased five-fold since the start of the year – a direct result of advertising and rebranding.

Formerly known as the Koondrook-Barham Art Group, the organisation has gone from having six active artists on its books 12 months ago to 26.

The increase in numbers is a result of an advertising campaign, the creation of a Facebook page and other promotions.

A $4315 contribution from council's community grants program assisted with these efforts, as well as the running of a watercolour workshop in April.

The funding also assisted with restocking the group's material stocks.

"Anyone is welcome to sign up and come and try their talents on the variety of mediums or materials we have available," Golden Rivers Artists president, Danida Heitbaum-Ferres said.

The group meets once a month for a one or two-day workshop covering a Friday and or Saturday, and also has professional tutors run workshops throughout the year.

Members of the group also regularly exhibit at various art galleries and shows and as a group exhibit their works - including an exhibition at Echuca next month.

"Council is pleased to support local arts and culture initiatives and look forward to seeing the continued success of the Golden Rivers Artists in promoting and including the community in arts based activities," Gannawarra mayor, Cr Brian Gibson said.
