A WANDERING bike path is being developed in the vicinity of the Sir John Gorton Library at Kerang.

It with have interactive features suitable for learning to ride in a safe environment.

It is the latest stage in the Sir John Gorton Precinct, involving the library and swimming pool area with a linkage to the adjacent Atkinson Park.

The bike path will circulate in a figure of eight through a 'forest' of solar panels that have already been placed by council.

Gannawarra Shire Council infrastructure director, Geoff Rollinson said that about three undulating grass mounds will act as a non-intrusive privacy barrier between the pool zone and library zone.

The mounds will become a viewing point for the pools, as well as providing a terrain for children's play and informal events.

"Currently this space is an under-utilised open grassed area," Mr Rollinson said.

"The four elements of a major regional library, the local swimming pool complex, a new (exhibition) showroom (not yet built) and green space come together to inspire a unique combination of physical activity, passive recreation, learning and entertainment."

Mr Rollinson said that the Sir John Gorton Precinct will evolve over time. A series of distinct projects have been identified in a master plan that will offer the opportunity to prioritise and stage the changes to suit the community.
