Big Cohuna Festival

LOCAL culinary delights, activities on the water, majestic forests and a variety of farming pursuits all feature in five days of events starting at Cohuna today.

The Big Cohuna Festival will be launched with the first of more than 30 events.

A number of traditional highlights feature in the program, which also includes cattle sales, farm tours, nature cruises and photographic exhibitions.

The uninitiated can see how a cattle sale is conducted today, followed by an evening cruise on the picturesque Gunbower Creek and the opening of an art exhibition, leading into the official festival launch and Big Cohuna Feasting Table at the civic centre lawn from 7pm.

The majority of events will occur tomorrow, starting with the Cohuna Parkrun at Garden Park from 8am and concluding with an astronomy photographic workshop at 7.30pm.

The biggest event of the festival – the Cohuna Consolidated School Creekside Fair – will begin at Garden Park at 5pm, featuring food vendors, rides, family-friendly attractions and the popular Duck Derby at 7pm.

Celebrations will continue at Garden Park on Sunday with the Made Local Market from 9am and North Central Catchment Management Authority's catch a carp competition, which begins at 10am.

Other events occurring on the Sunday include yoga at Apex Park from 9am, Gunbower Forest tours and a Tyler Hudson concert in the evening.

The district's agricultural sector dominates proceedings on Monday, November 6 with the Farmyard Frolic occurring during the day.

People can grab a map and travel to some of the area's most progressive farms and purchase products on-site.

Festivities wrap up on Tuesday with a paddleboard tour of the Gunbower Forest canoe trail at Koondrook, the Wetlander chicken and champagne breakfast tour and the Cohuna District Hospital Auxiliary's Melbourne Cup luncheon at Gunbower.

The festival is being presented by Operation Next Gen and Cohuna Progress Association.

Details on all events are available online at www.cohuna.org.au or from various outlets throughout the town.
