KERANG'S growing number of women footballers will begin preparations for the 2018 season tonight.
The Blues, who won two games and drew another match in the inaugural Northern Country Women's League competition last year, will compete in the newly-formed AFL Goulburn Murray-managed league later this year following significant growth in women's football.
Fellow Northern Country Women's League sides Benalla, Echuca, Mooroopna and Shepparton will play in the new league, with Numurkah and Rumbalara to also field sides.
"We want to be competitive, but we also want to see improvement on where the girls left after the completion of last season," Blues coach, Ash Wise said.
"We have 32 players interested, with some coming from as far away as Swan Hill and Nyah. There are also some players from Cohuna and Barham."
New players aged 18 years and over are welcome, with training sessions held at Riverside Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm.
