ROAD closures and detours will be in place throughout Kerang whilst the Queen's Baton Relay travels throughout the town.
Roads where the baton will travel will be closed from 12.30pm to 1.40pm, but will reopen once the baton convoy passes by each section to minimise disruptions to traffic.
Police will close and monitor the Murray Valley Highway between 1.30pm and 1.45pm to allow for safe travel of the baton from Wellington Street across to Atkinson Park. People wanting to use the highway at this time will have to travel via Boort-Kerang Road and Old Kerang Road.
The relay starts at St Joseph’s Primary School at 1pm, passing by Kerang District Health's Burgoyne Street headquarters on its way to Kerang Technical High School, located on Murray Street.
The convoy then proceeds along Wattle Street past St Patricks Church turning down into Nolan Street, along Wyndham Street and into Victoria Street, stopping at Kerang Primary School.
The baton will then proceed through the CBD onto Wellington Street and across to Atkinson Park, arriving at 1.37pm.
Parking is available at the car park at the rear of Patchell Plaza, in Shadforth Street and rear of the Kerang Memorial Hall. No parking will be available in the service lane at Atkinson Park between 12 noon and 2.30pm.
The Queen’s Baton Convoy is 80 metres long and the baton bearer’s move at approximately five kilometres per hour so there is time to move by foot from one position to another.
