A truck was being driven in a southerly direction when the driver lost control just north of Tragowel Swamp, resulting in fuel being spilled across the road.

TWO women were injured when the truck they were travelling in overturned near Kerang yesterday.

A section of the Loddon Valley Highway was closed until mid afternoon while the scene was declared safe and the truck and its trailer removed.

The truck was being driven in a southerly direction when the driver lost control about 9 kilometres south of the town, just north of Tragowel Swamp shortly after 9am.

The women were treated by paramedics at the scene and then conveyed by ambulance to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A fire tanker crew also responded and the Environment Protection Authority attended to determine the extent of contamination from spilt fuel.

Police and VicRoads personnel diverted traffic, and the road was opened by 2pm that afternoon after clean-up crews laid sand down on the road.
