ABOUT 90 steam train passengers stopped at Kerang for breakfast on Saturday during the annual Steamrail Victoria northern weekender tour to Swan Hill and Echuca.

The 67-year-old restored R-711 oil-powered steam engine pulled eight carriages, including sleeper cars previously used on the Overland that travelled between Melbourne and Adelaide.

The Rotary Club of Kerang and Kerang Progress Association joined forces to provide a cooked breakfast at the senior citizens club and provide local tourist information.

A number of local people joined the train for the journey to Swan Hill and many gathered on the pedestrian overpass for an elevated view.
