Beard going for a price

GOING: Trevor West has a price on his hair.

GOING: Trevor West has a price on his hair.

HAIR has sprouted from Trevor West's chin for the past 35 years.

A charitable cause has now prompted the Cohuna district farmer to relinquish his beard. Mr West hasn't touched his beard since 1983, when he was 20.

"I'm shaving it all off," Mr West said.

"I've kept it for 35 years."

The 55 year-old says he just wants to contribute to the ongoing search for a vaccine or cure, by raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

"I just don't like seeing little kids with tubes in their liver and noses.

"It's just a way of showing I don't like seeing kids dying."

Mr West is going to join the World's Greatest Shave and bring clippers to his long untouched beard on Saturday, November 10 at 3pm at the Bower Tavern in Cohuna.

Donation boxes can be found at the Cohuna Newsagent, Cohuna Post Office, Cohuna Neighbourhood House, the Bower Tavern and Riverland Trading.

"The more the merrier!" Mr West said.

Mr West's mother, Barbara West said: "I think it's a very good idea."

"I thought a beard would suit him but I didn't think it would suit him for this long!" Mrs West said.
