GUNBOWER Racing Club has been named as a finalist for the 2017/18 Country Racing Victoria Community Club of the Year.
The award is one of two newly created categories, and will recognise country clubs with turnover less than $1 million per year.
The other new category is the Country Racing Victoria Club of the Year, which recognises country clubs with a turnover of more than $1 million per year.
Gunbower Racing Club president, Mick Farrant said he was "rapt" with the nomination, which reflected the hard work the club has been doing.
"We've put new toilets in, a new lawn area, rebuilt the gate, and we've put more concrete down around the bedding area and new roofing over that. On race day for our members we always have a display of some sort, we've resown our track so we've got a better surface for horses and made it safer for horses and jockeys," he said.
"We're a bit more professional on how we run the day," he said.
