Fire and graffiti at railway station

POLICE are investigating a fire and vandalism at the historic railway station at Kerang.

Firefighters were called to the railway station in Boundary Street at about 10.30pm on Saturday night to extinguish a fire in a rubbish bin located near the platform side wall of the station.

Graffiti was also sprayed on the wall and on the bitumen platform.

A grass fire in King Street later the same night had the potential to spread rapidly towards houses in strong wind.

It is the latest in a spate of fires in the same area of the town.

POLICE are also investigating the theft of a safe containing a quantity of cash from a Kerang business.

An offender has gained entry to a back room of a business in Wellington Street between mid-October and 1pm on Wednesday, November 28.

BETWEEN August 1 and Wednesday, November 28, offenders have stolen 40 tonnes of oat seed from a rural property adjacent to the Murray Valley Highway at Kangaroo Lake.
