Highway rubbish clean-up

MORE than 20 volunteers from the little villages of the Kerang Lakes turned out to clean up along the Murray Valley Highway last Sunday.

The Clean Up Australia Day volunteers spent two hours in the area from Charm, north to the Morrows' property on the highway.

"We'll be writing to McDonalds, KFC, Jim Beam and Carlton Breweries for a donation," Lake Charm Landcare president and clean up co-ordinator Lindsay Hogg.

The biggest finds included a spinning toy, spanner, money, wok, prickly pear, caravan annexe, tyres and mobile phone.

There were upmarket coffee cups and Jim Beam discards and downmarket Nifty ice-coffee containers and cigarettes packets.

"We collected over three trailer or ute loads - more than 40 bags of rubbish," Mr Hogg said.
