FIREFIGHTERS have remained on the scene of a Kerang hay shed fire that started on Melbourne Cup day after strong winds caused the blaze to spread.

The fire, on Kerang-Koondrook Road, was noticed about noon last Tuesday and 26 units were called to respond.
