FIRE authorities are urging landowners to take extra precautions before lighting up after firefighters responded to close to 1000 escaped burn-offs.

With fire restrictions easing across the state, some residents have begun burning off grass, stubble, weeds and undergrowth to maintain and prepare their properties.
