THE estimated cost of the VNI West project has doubled and will now come with a price tag of $7.6 billion, according to the AEMO's Electricity Network Options Report released last week.

The report provides an estimated range of between 30 per cent less ($5.2 billion) or as much as 50 per cent more ($11.4 billion) for the controversial transmission project.
