Free pool parties to celebrate Australia Day

NORTHERN District Community Health (NDCH), Gannawarra Shire Council and FReeZA are uniting to host two pool parties over the Australia Day weekend.

On January 25 in Kerang and January 26 in Cohuna, NDCH will host pool parties with activities for young people between 2pm-4pm with free entry during those hours.

NDCH chief executive officer, Mandy Hutchinson said the events could become an annual fixture.

"Northern District Community Health and FReeZA are looking forward to working with Gannawarra Shire Council in what we hope will become an annual highlight of our events calendar," she said.

"Events will be held at both of our local pools, meaning young people will have the chance to spend either day relaxing poolside."

Triple J's Hottest 100 countdown will be streamed poolside at the Kerang Swimming Pool on Saturday.

The pool inflatable obstacle course will be running as well as the slide in the afternoon.

A free land based inflatable gauntlet run will also be running for those brave enough to take it on.

Pool sports will be occurring across the afternoon and a free sausage sizzle will conclude the pool party as the top 10 songs of the past year are counted down.

On Sunday in Cohuna, the party will be themed around Australia Day.

Beau Nesko will be playing Australian hits live by the pool.

The slide and inflatable will also be running throughout the afternoon and various activities will run both on land and in the water.

A free sausage sizzle will also be available to attendees at the conclusion of the party.

Both events are alcohol, drug and smoke free and are made possible through FReeZA, a Victorian government initiative, and Gannawarra Shire Council.

The regular entry fee will apply for pool visits outside of the event times.
