Moving to the district
I WAS 14 when we moved here. Dad was from East Germany and his family was always connected to the land, and he had this dream that he was going to retire and become a farmer — which is not really what happens when you're on the land. It was a bit of a shock really, going from Mount Macedon, which is mountains and green, to Macorna, which was flat and dry, and from Braemar College to Kerang Technical High School. And we had a different background — there weren't a lot people with a German background. It was a very different life.
