LODDON Shire police and their families have released a statement of thanks to the community in the wake of the deaths of four Victoria Police officers in Melbourne last Wednesday.
The statement says kindness and support from local residents, organisations and agencies has given officers stationed in Loddon great comfort.
“Your thoughts and sympathetic words have been overwhelming and humbling,” it says. “The knowledge and reassurance provided personally, by cards, gifts, emails and telephone calls of sympathy, has given great comfort to our members.
“It is truly an emotional time, where all have been affected by the death of four police officers killed performing everyday duties protecting Victorians on the Eastern Freeway, on Wednesday April 22.”
The statement says officers’ thoughts and prayers were with the families, friends and close colleagues of the police members who lost their lives - Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King, Constable Joshua Prestney and Constable Glen Humphris.
“We are grateful for your show of appreciation for the work we do and the respect you have paid our fallen colleagues,” it says.
“We take this opportunity to thank you and ask that you place the safety of your families, friends, work colleagues and yourself as the priority so that everyone is safe.”
