AUSTRALIA achieved a new first on Wednesday when it sourced over half of required energy for its National Energy Grid from renewable sources in one trading period.

The main grid includes Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, but not Western Australia or the Northern Territory.

The trading period occurred at 11.50am on Wednesday and lasted for 10 minutes.
