Murray councils call for Kerang power link action

LIMITATIONS in Victoria's transmission network are stalling the development of Mallee electricity generation projects that could together replace the Loy Yang coal-fired power station twice over, according to the Murray River Group of Councils (MRGC).

The six regional councils of the group, which includes Gannawarra Shire, are lobbying the Federal and State governments and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for the so-called Kerang Link network upgrade option to be prioritised, and for work to start on the initial section of the project, the upgrade of the 220kV line between Ballarat and Bendigo.
