New councillor sworn in

NEW Yarran ward councillor Andrew Gibbs was sworn in at the Gannawarra Shire Council chambers in Kerang on Tuesday morning.

Both Mr Gibbs and Patchell ward councillor Jenny Fawcett, who was sworn in on February 18, were officially welcomed to their new roles on Tuesday.

Gannawarra Shire mayor Lorraine Learmonth congratulated the pair, who are filling positions left vacant by former representatives Mark Arians and Sonia Wright.

"Thanks to Cr Fawcett and Cr Gibbs accepting these roles, residents in the Patchell and Yarran wards can be assured that they are now represented in the chamber by the correct number of councillors," the mayor said in a statement.

Cr Learmonth also thanked the Victorian Electoral Commission for managing the replacements and the local community for their patience during the process.

While Ms Fawcett, who was the only unelected Patchell ward candidate in the 2016 council elections, was automatically elected to the Patchell vacancy, Mr Gibbs was one of three unelected Yarran ward candidates in 2016, and his appointment came...
