Story time for seniors

Grandparents are invited to the weekly Story Time session at Kerang's Sir John Gorton Library this Thursday, as part of Victorian Seniors Festival celebrations.

Participants are encouraged to come along and enjoy the fun, with lots of stories, songs and activities planned.

A recent grandparents story time was held in Cohuna, with Gannawarra Library Service manager Kerri Sidorow indicating it was a great success.

"We've invited a guest reader so it's not our normal librarian telling the stories, although she's running it," Ms Sidorow said.

"We're involving a grandparent in the actual reading of the stories."

A grandfather took on the role of story reader at the Cohuna session.

"We know that grandparents reading to their grandchildren is a fantastic thing, but often grandparents don't necessarily think that they can come along to story time and they're really welcome, and I think they add such a joyful amount of experience."

While stories read on the day will be modern, there is usually a little time set aside for singing nursery rhymes.
