FIREFIGHTERS were thanked with waves from the public in streets and free petrol when the local District 20 strike team travelled home from fighting bushfires in Wodonga earlier this year.

But Kerang Fire Brigade second lieutenant Lee Guest, who was among them, modestly shrugged off their efforts saving two houses from being destroyed.
