Water flows past drought-stricken farms

FORESTS are being flooded as the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder flushes 400,000 megalitres down the Murray River, des­pite the basin suffering its worst drought on record.

Bureau of Meteorology maps show that for the second year rainfall run-off across the basin's southern alps, which deliver 70-80 per cent of the basin's inflows, are "very much below average" with large parts sitting in the "lowest one per cent" of years.
