AFLW umpire Melissa Sambrooks has joined a longtime friend in becoming the first female boundary umpires to officiate in the AFL.

Sambrooks said she felt a "mix of excitement and nerves" as she stepped onto the MCG for her AFL boundary umpiring debut on Thursday night.
